About the Talk

Stress, peace and butterflies.

Does it sound like an odd combination? You may be surprised!

Is stress gradually overtaking your life? Before it happens, identify its causes and learn how to cope with them. Our society tells us everyday that we should push our own limits. However, when we overstep our limits for a long time, we disrupt our emotional balance. The result is chronic stress that may develop into a burn-out or even depression. Start restoring your inner balance and improve your quality of life. The sooner you start to change, the sooner you will get the expected results.

Stress Management can change your whole life. Big changes are often triggered by small things.

Luiz walked the audience through the various aspects  of stress, its effects on our body, how stress can be viral and spread throughout our environment.

Failing to manage our stress can lead to damaging not only ourselves, but our family, our colleagues and our community.

On the other hand, managing stress is a powerful way to create peaceful individuals, families and societies.

Luiz suggested some practical remedies for stress prevention such as taking time out for oneself, changing perspective, change our response to stress, relaxation and not least, being a good person which triggers good reactions in others.

In my homeland, Brazil, I worked for more than ten years in the international area. During that time I was in close contact with the expat world and could observe how stressful cultural adaptation can be.

In 2003, my marriage took me to the Netherlands and it was my time to experience, for the first time, expatriation as a partner.  In The Hague I made contact with other expats and became familiar with countless reports on expat life, all of them unique but with one common point: stress.  It was remarkable to observe how several of the complaints these expats had about Dutch behavior were actually reactions to their own relocation related stress.

I quickly realized that stress can be ‘contagious‘ and I decided to gather more information about this phenomenon. I also decided that this stress chain reaction was not to happen in my own life and that I could help other people to cope with it.

Still in The Netherlands, I went back to university studying Psychology. In 2007, we relocated to Geneva and here  I had a very happy encounter with Coaching. In 2008 I finished my training at the Institut de Coaching de Genève and became a Professional Coach.
Last January I received my diploma of Certified Professional Coach. Right after that, I started a training in Systemic Constellations. Those trainings gave me the necessary tools to work on stress management and expat well-being on a deeper level.

It is possible to keep your stress under control, but it certainly requires a change in your mind-set. The role of coaching in this process is to help you change this perspective. I invite you to join me on October 21st for a presentation on how to control your stress and create a healthier environment.  I will see that even the smallest change in attitude may trigger fundamental improvements in your quality of life and of those around you. Start this change now!
